Vampire Squid

No longer a cryptid, this bizarre creature with huge black eyes and a bright red cloak that connects its eight arms was officially classified in the 1930s. It is the only squid that does not to hunt living prey, it feasts on dead creatures found at the bottom of the ocean.

Ropen

First spotted in remote parts of Papua, New Guinea, this creature is said to be a cross between a giant bat and a pterosaur — a flying dinosaur long thought to be extinct. Seen only after dark, the Ropen has the ability to light up through some form of bioluminescence. While most accounts say it lives on fish, there are also reports of Ropen feasting on human corpses pulled from fresh graves.

Nain Rouge

French for "red dwarf", the Nain Rouge haunts the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. The beast looks like a small child with red and black fur, glowing eyes, and protruding, rotting teeth. Two witnesses who saw it in 1996 claimed it also made a cawing sound like a crow. Cryptozoologists say that whenever the creature makes an appearance, some kind of tragedy follows.

 

Shug Monkey

This creature has the head and body of an ape but the legs, feet, and paws of a large mastiff-like dog. First reported by Vikings settling in the British Isles around 1000 A.D., Shug Monkeys are still reported today. As recently as 2009, three witnesses spotted one not far from Rendlesham Forest, the location of one of the most spectacular UFO sightings in history.

Echidna.... some freaky hedge hog looking animal

Here now is the latest installment in Ze Frank's always entertaining, occasionally scientifically accurate "facts about _______" nature series. To date, Frank has covered hedgehogs,anglerfish, and now baby echidnas, a.k.a. "puggles," a.k.a. baby Max Rebo.
